DAYTON, Ohio -- The step-grandfather of a 9-year-old Ohio girl kept barricaded in a bathroom when she wasn't in school has pleaded guilty to a charge of permitting child abuse.

The prosecutor says 51-year-old Brian Hart of Dayton could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.

Hart, who pleaded guilty Wednesday in Montgomery County, is the husband of the girl's biological grandmother. She pleaded guilty Friday to abduction and endangering children charges. The Harts, who were the girl's legal guardians, were scheduled for trial April 16.

Authorities say the girl was kept in a small bathroom area blocked by stacked dressers and rarely allowed out for years.

Police say the Harts told them they confined her because of behavioral problems.

There was no answer to calls to Hart's attorney.
