AKRON -- Although she was only with the Akron Police Department for two and a half years, her contributions were big.

During her career, she was part of more than 750 callouts and credited with 246 arrests -- 127 of which were felonies. She nabbed 14 robbers, 59 burglars and was involved in 82 drug-related arrests.

Shane, a K-9 member of the Akron Police Department, lost her battle with cancer today.

In all of her arrests, Akron Police say only one person tried to run from her -- but Shane caught up with the suspect in less than 30 yards.

During her stint with APD, Shane earned three Chief's commendations and recently placed 2nd in the "Top Dog" K-9 competition held in downtown Akron. She also performed numerous K-9 demonstrations to the public.

Shane was 5 years old.
