SUGARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a Sunday evening crash that happened on Elton Street.

The crash occurred just west of Smith Rd when an ATV crashed into a horse-drawn buggy around 5:50 p.m.

According to troopers, the ATV, driven by Jeremy Venables, failed to stay far enough away from the buggy ahead and crashed into the back of it.

Venables was ejected from the ATV when it overturned after hitting the buggy.

Joseph Hershberger was ejected from the buggy and dragged several feet by the horses. Hershberger was injured but was not taken to the hospital.

Venables wasn't wearing a safety belt or a helmet and needed to be taken to the hospital with serious injuries. He was taken to Affinity Medical Center.

Police continue to investigate the accident.
