Senator Sherrod Brown is putting pressure on the FDA over tainted dog treats.
Several area dog owners told WKYC that their pets died or became ill after eating the chicken jerky treats.
The treats are made in China under a variety of names.
Sen. Brown says he wants the FDA to identify the toxic source and have stores take the items off the shelves. Brown says he also wants to change the way customers are notified about pet food recalls.
According to a statement released in June 2011, The American Veterinary Medical Association
states when it comes to these chicken jerky treats "the FDA claims 'a definitive cause-and-effect link has not been established.'"
