CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Metropolitan School District says student and staff at the Almira School will be moved to a new building after concerns were raised about support beams.

During a routine inspection of the Nathaniel Hawthorne building, the current swing-site location for Almira students and staff, a custodian noticed two structural beams supporting the roof were deteriorating.

To ensure safety, the decision was made to relocate classes.

The new site, the Brooklawn facility on Worthington Avenue will be prepped over the coming days for the transition.

As a result, the district is closing Almira School on January 9, 10 and 11. Parents are being notified of the transition through phone calls and a letter. School is expected to resume for Almira students on January 12.

Transportation services for students are being rerouted to the new location.

An engineering firm is assessing the Hawthorne building to determine recommendations for future use of the building.
