Cleveland Browns @ Detroit Lions - Preseason, Game 1

After two weeks of practice in training camp, the Cleveland Browns will get the 2012 preseason started Friday night when they head to the "Motor City" and face the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.

The Browns and Lions have met in each of the last 10 preseasons, and have five wins apiece in the Great Lakes Classic. However, the Browns are just 1-3 at Detroit in the last 10 years. The Browns have listed 10 in-active players for tonight's game against the Lions.

Linebacker D'Qwell Jackson was announced as one of the Browns' 10 inactive players for tonight's game against the Lions. Jackson, defensive linemen Marcus Benard, Phil Taylor, Frostee Rucker and Ahtyba Rubin, tight end Benjamin Watson, running back Trent Richardson, defensive back Usama Young, fullback Eddie Williams and linebacker Chris Gocong will not play in tonight's preseason opener.

Lions head coach Jim Schwartz has ruled out defensive end Cliff Avril, running back Jahvid Best (Active/PUP), receiver Ryan Broyles, safety Don Carey, safety Louis Delmas, cornerback Chris Greenwood (Active/PUP), running back Mikel Leshoure, defensive tackle Sammie Hill, offensive tackle Jonathan Scott, and defensive end  Kyle Vanden Bosch for tonight's game.

The Browns first offensive play was a pass from Weeden who connected with Mohammed Massaquoi on a 12yd pass and then again to Travis Benjamin along the sidelines for 34yds. The possession ended with a lost challenge after Brandon Weeden fumbled.

Sheldon Brown intercepted Matthew Stafford at 9:24 in the 1st quarter but the drive ended with a punt from the Detriots 44 yd line.

Mohammed Massaquoi would leave the game with a head injury in 1st quarter.

Brandon Weeden was picked with 2:08 left in the 1st quarter by corner back Dwight Bentley at the Browns 25 yard line.

With 1:00 minute left in the 1st quarter Detroit running back K. Williams rushed for a 5 yard touchdown.

At the end of the1st quarter the Detroit Lions lead the Cleveland Browns 7-0.   

The 2nd quarter started with the Browns defensive lineman Scott Paxson and defensive back Dimitri Patterson leaving the field with injuries. 

With 10:02 in the 2nd quarter Jason Hanson missed a 48 yd field goal.

The Browns responded with a Colt McCoy pass to Jordan Cameron for 42 yards down to Detroit's 25 yard line.  Cameron was injured on the play and left the field for examination.

The drive would be capped off with a 37 yard field goal from Phil Dawson. 6 plays, 43 yards in 2:51.

With 2:10 left in the half, the Lions would score on a pass from quarterback Shaun Hill to Stefan Logan to extend the lead 14-3. 12 plays, 80 yards in 5:11.

The half ended in a Detroit lead, 14-3.

 The 3rd quarter got a jump start when Jordan Norwood returned a punt for 45 yards to Detroit's 43 yard line. That would set up a Seneca Wallace scramble that lead to a Brad Smelley 13 yard touchdown reception. The Browns trimmed the Detroit lead 14-10. 8 plays, 43 yards in 3:23.

With 4:20 left in the 3rd quarter the Browns set up a 46 yard field goal attempt for Jeff Wolfert. The kick was missed wide left.

The quarter ended with a 14-10 Detroit lead.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To start the final quarter of play, the Lions made a 40 yard field goal by kicker Derek Dimke. The Lions lead 17-10.  8 plays, 43 yards in 3:23.

The Browns would answer with 6:05 left in the game. Adonis Thomas ran for a 3 yard touchdown. The Browns attempted a two point conversion with a Thomas run.  Detroit stopped Thomas short of the 1 yard line. Detroit leads 17-16 - 11 plays 75 yards in 4:20.

With 33 seconds left in the game Jeff Wolfert made a 45 yard field goal. Browns lead Detroit 19-17 - 6 plays, 43 yards in 1:50.  

The Lions made one last attempt, but was intercepted by David Sims with 9 seconds left.

Browns beat the Lions 19-17.
