DORNEY -- Westlake's Margot Shumway and her partner finished third in their preliminary heat in the women's double sculls as the rowing competition got underway at the 2012 London Olympics.

Shumway and her partner, Sarah Trowbridge, finished teams from Australia and Poland, which finished in first and second place respectively.

Only the top two teams in each heat advance automatically.

Shumway and Trowbridge have another shot at making the final if they can place in the top two in a six-boat repechage race on July 31.

The rowing competition is being held on Dorney Lake.
