After a social media avalanche of public pressure, Komen for the Cure did an about-face on its decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood.

Thursday, Cleveland Councilman Zack Reed said he wanted council to pull the permits for Race for the Cure over this issue. The national media even called him about his proposal.

Friday the mayor said Race for the Cure will go on, but now it's all a moot point after Komen decided it will continue funding breast screening programs at Planned Parenthood.

Komen founder and CEO Nancy Brinker said in a statement:

We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives.

We will continue to fund existing grants including those of Planned Parenthood and preserve their eligibility to apply for future grants.

Brinker added that the initial decision was in no way political or meant to penalize Planned Parenthood.

The decision to reverse doesn't sit well with some.

This year's Race for the Cure will go on September 8th.

It's important to note that our local Komen affiliate hasn't funded Planned Parenthood in Ohio for more than a decade.

This was a national issue.
