A newly expanded TSA checkpoint opened at the Akron-Canton Airport today.
The new checkpoint is four times larger and has four screening lanes that can be expanded into six. The checkpoint features the newest screening technology.
The completion of the new checkpoint is part of CAK 2018 the airport's 10-year, $110 million capital improvement plan. Construction began on the project in April and ended in early January 2012.
The airport's food court was relocated to the other side of the main concourse to make way for the expanded screening checkpoint area.
"The Akron-Canton Airport continues to provide convenient, low-cost air travel options for Ohioans," said Senator Sherrod Brown. "The Transportation Security Administration's new and improved checkpoint will promote the highest degree of safety for travelers, pilots, and airport staff while providing for a more convenient travel experience. This investment will lead to continued success at Akron-Canton Airport and spells good news for the regional economy."
The new checkpoint and relocation of the food court cost $2.34 million.
