  • KINGSTON, Mass. -- A non-profit group that's helping neighbors -- and the pets they love -- through tough economic times.

It's been a year of special deliveries for Marlo Manning. Bringing food and financial aid to four-legged friends in Massachusetts whose two-legged owners are still trapped in the recession.

Only able to find part time work, Vicki Richard says she couldn't feed Willie and Tucker without Manning's organization, Fairy Dogparents.

"Well we're very grateful to Fairy Dogparents. Thank you for saving them," Richard told Manning.

Last December, NBC News reported on how Fairy Dogparents saved another dog named Snowball.

The response from viewers was overwhelming.

"We had enough money to help four more sponsor dogs before we were on the segment [last year]," said Manning. "Afterwards, we raised over $50,000 and helped 112 dogs this year."

They've come in all shapes, sizes and needs. Still, Fairy Dogparents struggles to meet the growing requests, especially for high-priced vet care.

"The challenge is that acute care, on average, is three times more of an investment for us than any other sort of assistance," Manning explained.

Liberty has kidney disease. Nancy Clapp couldn't afford the medicine Liberty needs on her $800 per month Social Security check.

"The gift of Libby's life and many months of companionship and sharing and made her comfortable, too -- maybe more important than anything," said Clapp.

Tommy is 15-year-old Rachel Novick's best friend.

"We're just kind of like buddies, him and I. Brother and sister," said Novick.

They will grow up together because Fairy Dogparents stepped in with vet visits and vaccinations.

One more happy ending in this season of giving.
